Putting Children First: Hiring at Toto Homes

At Toto, we understand that the staff we hire for our children’s homes are more than just employees – they are mentors, caregivers and family for the children in our care. That’s why we have a comprehensive recruiting process aimed at finding the most nurturing, dedicated individuals to join our team.

In full compliance with regulations, we conduct stringent background checks including thorough identity verification, enhanced DBS/police checks, employment history reviews and extensive reference checks. We dig deep to understand the circumstances around any previous job transitions and potential red flags.

But equally important are the intangible qualities we screen for through behavioural interviews. We seek staff with outstanding emotional intelligence who can build trusting bonds with our children. The ability to remain patient, empathetic and solutions-oriented even in high-stress situations is essential.

A trauma-informed perspective allowing them to respond to our children’s unique needs and backgrounds with cultural competence is paramount. Above all, prospective hires must demonstrate an authentic passion for child welfare and commitment to putting our children’s safety, wellbeing and development first.

While qualifications are certainly valued, it’s these human qualities that matter most when working with children. We would never compromise by hiring someone who doesn’t meet our high standards and embody Toto’s nurturing, child-centered ethos and values.
