Insights from the Council for Disabled Children

The Council for Disabled Children’s recent publication, “Safeguarding Children with Disabilities and Complex Health Needs in Residential Settings – Phase 2,” provides invaluable insights into the unique challenges faced in safeguarding this vulnerable group. At Toto, we recognise the importance of a person-centered approach that considers each child’s individual needs and experiences.

The report highlights the necessity for improved staff training and support, effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders, and robust policies and procedures tailored to address the specific risks faced by children with disabilities. We at Toto are committed to implementing these recommendations to ensure the highest quality of care for all children in our care.

Ongoing professional development is a priority at Toto, and we provide specialised training to equip our staff with the knowledge and skills needed to support children with disabilities. We strongly believe in the power of partnership and work closely with social workers, healthcare professionals, and families to ensure a coordinated approach to safeguarding.

Our safeguarding policies are regularly reviewed and updated to align with the latest research and best practices, with specific protocols in place for working with children with disabilities. By staying informed and continuously improving our policies and procedures, we can create a nurturing environment where every child, regardless of their abilities or health needs, feels safe, valued, and empowered.

At Toto, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do, and we’re dedicated to prioritising the safety and well-being of all children in our care.
